Capstone students produced a championship-winning performance at the Asia Schools Junior WSDC 2026 on 20 and 21 June 2026. Competing in a 27-team field across the U12, U14 and U16 divisions, our debaters won the U12 title, progressed to the semifinals in both U12 and U14, advanced to the U14 quarterfinals and secured eight top-10 speaker placements.
U12 Champions
Hazel Xiaoyun L. (HKIS), Juahn K. (KS) and Kayla Z. (GHPS) were crowned U12 Champions. After four preliminary debates, they won their semifinal and then delivered when the title was at stake, taking the Grand Final by a unanimous decision. That final result reflected the preparation, trust and composure the three young debaters maintained through every stage of the competition.
Alexander T. (TTS), Amanda Y. (SIS), Chloe Qin S. (MCHK) and Claire S. (MCHK) also reached the U12 semifinals. Progressing to the final four gave Capstone two semifinal appearances in the youngest division and showed the depth of our primary debaters’ performance.
Deep runs in the U14 division
Rose Oi Yi W. (GSIS) and Sylvana C. (GSIS) reached the U14 semifinals after winning three of their four preliminary debates and advancing through the quarterfinals. Sylvana C. (GSIS) also placed joint 3rd among U14 speakers and joint 6th in the overall speaker standings. Rose Oi Yi W. (GSIS) completed the run with a joint 10th-place finish in the U14 speaker rankings.
Lucas L. (GSIS), Marcus Si Zhi L. (DBSPD), Sonia Sze Ying C. (SPCCPS) and Zoe Suet Yee C. (GSIS) progressed to the U14 quarterfinals. Their place in the elimination rounds added another strong result to Capstone’s showing across the junior divisions.
Speaker honours across both age groups
The U14 placements achieved by Sylvana C. (GSIS) and Rose Oi Yi W. (GSIS) gave Capstone students two places in the U14 top ten. Sylvana C. (GSIS) also earned the only verified Capstone top-10 place in the tournament’s combined speaker standings.
The U12 speaker tab brought further recognition. Juahn K. (KS) and Kayla Z. (GHPS) tied for 2nd, Hazel Xiaoyun L. (HKIS) placed 4th, Marcus Si Zhi L. (DBSPD) placed 9th and Cheryl Sum Yu C. (HKIS) placed 10th. These individual results, together with the championship and elimination-round performances, made Asia Schools Junior WSDC 2026 an outstanding tournament for Capstone’s young debaters.
Congratulations to every student who competed, and thank you to the coaches and families who supported their preparation. The title belongs to three champions, but the wider result reflects the courage and hard work shown by every Capstone debater who took the floor.
